Little Harbor

Harbor 36 Express

1990–2002

iFor those able to afford the cost of a custom-built yacht, the Little Harbor 36 was a high-tech example of classic Downeast styling and state-of-the-art construction. A handsome design with conservative lines, she features a traditional trunk cabin foredeck and a relatively narrow beam. The vacuum-bagged, balsa-cored hull uses Kevlar and S-glass laminates—high-tech indeed in the early 1990s. (Note that the hull is a true deep-V, although deadrise at the transom is just 16 degrees.) Because these were semicustom yachts, there were several layouts an owner might choose from to personalize his boat. In any case, expect to see plenty of varnished teak cabinetry below, Corian countertops in the head, and top-quality hardware and furnishings throughout. The bi-level cockpit is arranged with a dinette to port, and lift-up helm and companion sections provide excellent access to the engine room. A handsome boat that will stand the test of time, the cockpit can be adapted to serious sportfishing pursuits. Several diesel options were offered. Typically, twin 250hp Cummins diesels cruise the 36 Express at 20 knots and reach a top speed of 25–26 knots.
