The Krogen 54 is a serious bluewater cruiser with a full-displacement, ballasted hull and a classic pilothouse profile. Eight of these boats were built in Taiwan from 1987–89 on a round-bilged, deep-draft ballasted hull with a wide beam, a massive keel, and a rounded stern. Like many pilothouse designs, the Krogen 54’s interior has the owner’s stateroom located beneath the wheelhouse. Two additional staterooms are forward, both of which share a common head. Note that all of the staterooms are accessed via a corridor from the salon rather than directly from the wheelhouse. The salon is very spacious owing to the fact that the boat has only a single side deck on the starboard side. The entire interior is finished in teak and the headroom is excellent throughout. The wheelhouse, with its canted windows, is completely private and includes a watch berth and deck access doors. A second helm is tucked inside the false stack. The masts are used for steadying sails to dampen the rolling motion common to all full-displacement hulls. At an 8-knot cruising speed, a single Lehman diesel provides a range of nearly 2,000 miles.
