Jersey
40 Dawn
1977–88
A good-selling boat in her day, the Jersey 40 Dawn is a slightly restyled version of the company’s earlier 40 Executive model. Lighter, faster and less expensive than her predecessor, the Dawn was built on a low-deadrise, solid fiberglass hull with a relatively deep keel for improved directional stability. Two interior layouts were offered in the 40 Dawn with the single-stateroom version proving more popular than the two-stateroom, galley-up layout. The interior—which is a little dark—is completely finished with teak woodwork and cabinetry. Both floorplans have a double berth in the master stateroom, and a clothes dryer was standard in the dinette layout. The cockpit is big for a 40-foot boat, but the absence of a transom door is notable. Topside, the flybridge is arranged with bench seating forward of the helm console. Note that a flybridge overhang shades the forward part of the cockpit. Additional features include wide side decks and a molded bow pulpit. Among several gas and diesel engine choices, 235hp Volvo diesels cruise at 17–18 knots (about 22 knots top), and 325hp Cats cruise at 20 knots and top out in the mid 20s.
