A hugely successful model (120 were built), the Hatteras 65 Convertible is the best-selling sportfishing boat her size ever built. She was a step up from the Hatteras 60 Convertible with more aggressive styling and performance. The hull is an extended version of the 60 Convertible’s hull with a finer entry, balsa-cored hullsides, and prop pockets to level the engines. With an 18-foot beam, the Hatteras 65 is a big boat with the accommodations of a small motoryacht. Most were delivered with a three-stateroom three-head interior with the galley and dinette forward in a beautifully appointed salon. Below, the master stateroom with island queen bed is forward. Just aft of the master stateroom, to port, is a VIP stateroom with side-by-side beds. The starboard guest stateroom has upper and lower berths. All three heads have stall showers. A door aft of the staterooms opens to a utility room with washer/dryer, full-size freezer, etc. A four-stateroom interior was optional. The enclosed bridge features a leather settee to port and single helm chair forward. The 183-square-foot is massive. Standard 1,035hp Detroit 12V92s cruise in the low 20s. Optional 1,235hp MTUs (or 1,350hp 16V92s) cruise at 25 knots.

The Hatteras 65 Convertible is a restyled and updated version of the original Hatteras 65 Convertible produced in 1987–2000. Like her predecessor, the 65 is a heavily built yacht whose blend of comfort and range were designed to compete with the best boats in her class. The hull is solid fiberglass below the waterline with prop pockets to level the engines and reduce draft. The standard open bridge offers an extended deck overhang with a raised helm deck for increased visibility, and an optional enclosed flybridge could be fitted with a spiral staircase to the starboard side of the salon. Two interior arrangements were offered. The standard four-stateroom interior features an amidships master with a queen bed, plenty of storage space, and a private head with tub/shower. The VIP stateroom includes a queen-size berth and a private head. Upper and lower berths are featured in the guest stateroom with access to the day head, and the captain's stateroom is aft with an upper and lower bunk and private head. The washer and dryer are also located aft. The 65’s huge tournament-style cockpit provides more than enough space for a whole team of anglers. No lightweight, Cat 1,400hp engines cruise at 25–26 knots.
