A heavily built yacht, the 64 Motor Yacht is remembered today as having been the only Hatteras ever built with V-drives—an innovative concept in such a large yacht back in the 1970s (but not at all uncommon today). She’s built on an easy-riding modified-V hull with a shallow keel and a wide 18-foot, 4-inch beam. Designed to be operated as a crewed yacht, her spacious four-stateroom interior (with the engine room aft) has the owner’s stateroom amidships, two guest cabins aft, and a roomy crew quarters area forward. With the galley separating the wheelhouse from the main salon, the owner’s party can dine and entertain in privacy from the crew. Twin doors in the salon’s aft bulkhead open onto a covered, semi-enclosed afterdeck with wing doors and extended side windshields. Additional features include a concealed engine room access entrance along the port side deck, an inside stairway leading to the flybridge (restyled in 1977), port and starboard wheelhouse doors, and protected side decks. A comfortable yacht, Detroit 650hp V-drive 12V71 diesels cruise the Hatteras 64 Motor Yacht at 16–17 knots with a top speed of around 19 knots.

The Hatteras 64 is a revamped version of the Hatteras 6300 Raised Pilothouse (2000–03) with an all-new interior layout. She’s built on the same low-deadrise hull as her predecessor with a wide beam, solid fiberglass bottom, and shallow propeller tunnels to level the engines and reduce draft. The standard layout consists of three staterooms and three heads with crew quarters for two. As with most modern pilothouse interiors, the galley and dinette are forward, three steps above the salon with its posh sectional lounge, twin lounge chairs, and cherry entertainment center. The galley features under-counter Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, four-burner ceramic cooktop, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and granite countertops. A lower helm is standard, and a pantograph door to starboard provides easy access to the side decks. Reached via a central stairwell in the galley, the flybridge offers lounge seating for a small crowd. Below, a full-beam master stateroom includes a king-size bed and ensuite head with tub. An optional four-stateroom layout came at the expense of a smaller master suite. No lightweight, Cat 1,400hp engines cruise at 24–25 knots.
