49 Motor Yacht

Gulfstar Yachts 49 Motor Yacht
The Gulfstar 49 Motor Yacht is an evolutionary refinement of the company’s 48-footer (1981–83). What really sets her apart from her predecessor, however, is the 49’s fully enclosed and air-conditioned aft deck. Indeed, this enclosed aft deck is actually the main salon of the Gulfstar 49 while the mid-level deckhouse—the salon in most motor yachts—houses the galley and dinette. Built on a semi-displacement hull with a long, deep keel for directional stability, balsa coring was used throughout the 49’s hull to reduce weight. A pair of three-stateroom, three-head floorplans was offered in the Gulfstar 49, both with double beds in each cabin and stall showers in each head. A laundry center and a walk-in engine room were standard, and this is one boat with more storage than most folks will ever require. Because there are no aft side decks, a small cockpit is provided at the stern for line-handling duties. Topside, there’s flybridge seating for a small crowd. Additional features include a full teak interior, a spacious engine room (with a seawater intake chest), bow pulpit and swim platform. Perkins 350hp diesels cruise the Gulfstar 49 at 12 knots, while 435hp GM 6-71s cruise at 16–17 knots.
