48 Motor Yacht

1981–83

Gulfstar Yachts 48 Motor Yacht
Closely resembling the Gulfstar 44 Motor Cruiser in appearance, the 48 Motor Yacht was the first Gulfstar to be built on a planing hull and powered to attain true motor yacht speeds. Then state of the art construction techniques, including balsa coring in the hullsides and unidirectional composite materials, were used in the production of the 48, and she was considered a high-tech boat in her day. Below deck, her expansive three-stateroom interior is arranged with the galley and dinette down from the salon, queen berths in both aft cabins, and stacked single berths in the forward stateroom. The salon is large enough to accommodate several furniture arrangements, and there is near standing headroom in the well-lit engine compartment. Throughout, the teak cabinetry and woodwork found in the Gulfstar 48 are well crafted and lavishly applied. A hardtop shades the huge open aft deck, and the flybridge could be ordered with guest seating forward or aft of the helm. Standard power for the Gulfstar 48 was GM 6-71Ns (290hp) with 390hp TI versions offered as an option. The latter engines cruise at 14–16 knots. Eighteen Gulfstar 48 MYs were built in the early 1980s.
