44 Motor Yacht

1985–88

Gulfstar Yachts 44 Motor Yacht
Still a handsome yacht today in spite of her age, the Gulfstar 44 Motor Yacht enjoyed a good deal of popularity in the late 1980s. It wasn't just her modern construction and planing-speed performance that impressed buyers; indeed, it was the 44’s fully enclosed and air-conditioned afterdeck—a virtual second salon with wing doors—that the boating public found so remarkable. Originally with side decks and later expanded to her full-beam limit (the 44 MK II), this additional living area gave the Gulfstar 44 the interior accommodations of a much larger yacht. (The downside of this configuration, of course, is the absence of the open aft deck found in nearly all traditional motor yachts.) The Gulfstar’s two-stateroom floorplan is a lavish display of handcrafted teak joinery. With the main salon on the upper deck, the galley and dinette occupy the lower-level salon where they’re easily accessed from both staterooms. Unusually, the aft stateroom bed faces aft rather than forward. Additional features include a washer/dryer area, small aft deck (for line handling), and walk-in engine room with a sea chest. Twin 300hp Cat diesels cruise at 15–16 knots.
