The Maryland 37 is a French-built, mid-sized catamaran cruiser whose vast interior, stable ride, and economical operation make her a compelling alternative to traditional monohull designs. Built by Fountaine Pajot, a longtime manufacturer of catamaran sailing yachts and large commercial cats, the Maryland rides on a pair of displacement hulls that move through the water rather than over it. Stepping aboard, the spacious salon dimensions are breathtaking considering that this is just a 37-foot boat. The lower helm is all the way forward, and the heavy-duty windows and extensive mahogany woodwork are notable. Each hull contains a stateroom with a double berth aft, a desk/work area further forward, and a full head with a separate stall shower at the bow. A circular stairway from the cockpit leads up to the flybridge which was updated in 2001 with revised helm and seating configurations. Additional features include very wide side decks, twin swim platforms, dinghy davits, and radar mast. Twin 75hp Yanmar diesels provide a 9-knot cruising speed (and about 800 miles of range), while optional 140hp Yanmars cruise at 14 knots (17–18 top).
