The primary designer of the Ellis 36 was the late Ralph Ellis who, with partner Ray Bunker, developed the original wooden lobster boats back in the 1950’s. The Ellis 36 is a refined version of the original Ellis full-keel hull, a well-crafted small yacht built with modern materials and loaded with first-class amenities. She was available with a soft top or optional hardtop, and buyers could choose a windshield-forward version (pictured above) if increased cockpit space was a priority, or with the windshield aft configuration for those wishing to maximize cabin space. The Ellis 36 is not just easy on the eye—she’s loaded with practical features as well. In the single-level cockpit, the side tables fold out, stern seats can be brought forward, and innovative helm/navigation seats adjust to seat a party of eight for dinner. There’s a separate stall shower in the head, and the compact galley is more than adequate for producing a full-scale meal. A bow thruster, swim platform, bow pulpit, and teak dining tables were standard. A single 440hp Yanmar diesel will cruise the Ellis 36 at 20 knots (23–24 knots top). Twin waterjet propulsion was also available.
