Cutwater Boats (the same company that builds Ranger Tugs) produces a series of trailerable, single-inboard cruisers all sharing an unusual stepped hull bottom incorporating tapered intake tunnels, a keel pad, and a substantial skeg keel. These features combine to help the boat to track straighter while allowing the engine to be located deep in the hull, lowering the center of gravity and reducing the required shaft angle. In the case of the Cutwater 28, the overall result is capable and seaworthy trailerable cruiser with a practical deck layout and versatile cabin accommodations. The V-berths in the forward cabin convert to a seating area for four people with a custom high-low table. A second cabin is below the dinette and offers an adult-sized double berth. For additional sleeping accommodations the pilothouse dinette converts to a third bunk. A teak and holly sole runs the full length of the interior. Additional features include a large galley with plenty of counter space, extended swim platform, transom gate, power engine hatch, aft-facing transom seat, and bow pulpit with retractable ladder. Cruise at 18–20 knots with a single 260hp Yanmar sterndrive engine.
