The Chaparral 280 SSi was among the most popular big bowriders available following her introduction in 1999 thanks to an enviable blend of smart styling, first-rate construction and excellent performance. Built on a deep-V hull, the 280’s versatile cockpit layout—with its comfortable seating and luxury appointments—is one of her most compelling features. The galley is fitted with a sink, pressure water and refrigerator, and the enclosed head compartment comes complete with a sink, storage bin and opening port for ventilation. A walk-through transom provides easy access to the swim platform, and the helm is thoughtfully designed with additional electronics in mind. Forward, the bow seating area is arranged with hinged seat storage, gunwale drink holders and a spacious in-floor ski locker. Flush-mount bi-fold doors separate the cockpit from the bow to reduce the effects of wind while driving at higher speeds. Recessed trim tabs are standard, and a radar arch and extended swim platform have been popular options. A good performer, twin 300hp Volvo sterndrive engines cruise the 280 SSi at 30 knots and reach a top speed in excess of 50 knots.
