For many boaters, this popular Chaparral cruiser (called the Signature 28 in 1991–92; 29 Signature in 1993–2000) struck the right mix of quality, comfort, and performance. She was considered a very stylish boat when she was introduced in 1991, and her generous 9'9"" beam results in a spacious and notably versatile interior. The layout is a little different from most midcabin designs: the V-berth is all the way forward followed by an aft-facing wraparound dinette (that you have to climb over to reach the V-berth) that spans the full width of the interior. A high/low table converts the dinette into a double berth, while the aft cabin is separated from the main salon with a privacy door rather than just a curtain. The cockpit is arranged in two sections: a three-person bench seat stows away in the transom, and a large U-shaped settee is forward, opposite the helm. On the downside, the side decks are very narrow. As many as six people can be seated comfortably in the cockpit, and visibility from the helm is excellent. A bow pulpit, radar arch, and cockpit wet bar were all standard. Twin 190hp MerCruiser sterndrives cruise the Signature 28/29 in the mid 20s (mid 30s top)
