Carver’s reputation for building durable, value-priced cruising yachts took another step forward in 2009 with the introduction on the 44 Sojourn, a boat whose capacity for entertaining is quickly apparent. The Sojourn was designed without any steps on the main deck level, meaning you can walk from the swim platform through the cockpit, past the sliding-glass doors, salon and galley areas, all the way forward to the master stateroom without taking a single step. The salon full-beam features a U-shaped dinette with fixed table that converts to a double berth. Opposite to port is an L-shaped lounge just aft of a wall unit with flat-screen TV. The galley—with microwave, Corian countertops, and upright refrigerator/freezer—is forward to starboard. The 44 Sojourn has two staterooms with a VIP with twin beds to port, and the master with island berth and private head forward. The day head is just aft of the master with private access from the guest stateroom. The Sojourn’s raised side decks offer direct access to the foredeck from a huge, party-time command bridge with seating for about a dozen people. No racehorse, Volvo 370hp IPS 500 diesels cruise the 44 Sojourn at a leisurely 18–20 knots.
