Introduced in 1984, the remarkable sales success of the Carver 3697 Mariner made her one of the best-selling midsize cruisers ever produced. Concealed beneath the Mariner’s high-freeboard profile lies an unusually spacious interior whose full-beam salon rivals much larger boats in size and comfort. The Mariner was built on the same “dual mode” hull originally used for the Carver 36 Aft Cabin—a cross between a modified-V and semi-displacement hull designed to provide efficient performance at both low and high speeds. Entering through a sliding glass door, the Mariner’s single-level interior features an L-shaped settee to port and U-shaped dinette to starboard. Two unique features of the Mariner are the bridge pass-through ladder forward of the settee, and the full-service wet bar opposite the galley complete with ice maker, counter space, and bottle storage. Forward, the master stateroom has an island queen berth, vanity sink, and hanging locker. The guest stateroom to starboard has upper/lower bunks, and the large head has a separate stall shower. Two short ladders in the cockpit lead to the bridge with seating for eight. No racehorse, Crusader 350hp V-drive gas engines cruise at 16–18 knots.
