Blackfin Yachts
27 Sportsman
1995–98
A distinctive and notably innovative design, the curved helm of the Blackfin 27 Sportsman projects the distinctive appearance of a South Florida custom-built boat. A superb rough-water performer, she’s heavily constructed on a solid fiberglass deep-V hull, and her 10-foot beam is relatively wide compared with many other 27-footers. While the cabin can’t be called spacious, it’s large enough to offer the basics including a V-berth, a compact galley, storage lockers, and a marine head. The spacious bi-level cockpit comes standard with two large in-deck fish boxes, a 35-gallon livewell, and a centerline transom fish box. There’s plenty of space in the helm console for an array of flush-mounted electronic add-ons. Originally introduced as an outboard-powered model, Blackfin began offering inboard power in 1996. Twin 250hp Yamaha outboards cruise a tower-equipped 27 Sportsman at 26 knots (approximately 38 knots top), and a pair of Yanmar 230hp diesels cruise at a brisk 26–27 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 33 knots. Note that since 2001, an updated outboard-powered version of the 27 Sportsman—the Salt Shaker 300 Walkaround—has been built on a limited production basis.
