Introduced in 1986, the Black Watch 30 was well received among serious anglers for her extraordinary handling abilities, handsome profile, and high-tech construction. Her balsa-cored deep-V hull earned an early reputation for good handling and seakeeping characteristics, and with nearly 11 feet of beam she’s a stable platform at trolling speeds. The deck layout of the 30 SF is dedicated to serious fishing activities, and her large unobstructed cockpit is set low to the water. A transom door is offset to starboard, and a pair of removable fish boxes are built into the cockpit sole. Engine boxes provide excellent access to the engines while serving as convenient seats from which to watch the baits. Inside, the cabin accommodations are fairly basic with berths for four (the backrests of the convertible dinette swing up to create single berths), an enclosed head with shower, storage lockers, and a small galley area. Visibility from the well-arranged helm is excellent in all directions. A good performer, twin 350hp gas engines cruise around 24 knots (34 knots top), and optional 300hp Cummins (or Cat) diesels cruise at 26–28 knots.
