The first production express sportfishing yacht to break the 50-foot barrier, the 50 Open was an impressive display of Viking engineering and design.
Alone in her class, the Viking 50 Open was the largest express sportfishing boat available when she was introduced in 1999. The 50 was designed from the ground up for the serious fisherman—the functional layout puts the captain within steps of the cockpit, and sightlines from the centerline helm are excellent in all directions. On the air-conditioned bridge, single-lever Panish controls and a modern pod-style helm were standard. Below deck, the spacious interior—available in single or twin stateroom configurations—is an appealing blend of high-gloss teak woodwork and quality furnishings. Forward to port, the L-shaped dinette features rod storage below and an adjustable dining table. A day head is conveniently located at the foot of the companionway stairs (a second private head serves the forward stateroom), and the portside galley features under-counter refrigeration and plenty of counter and storage space. Built on the same hull as the Viking 50 Convertible with a wide 16’4″ beam, cockpit fishing amenities include two in-deck fish boxes, a livewell, tackle center with freezer, and a transom door. MAN 1,050hp engines cruise at 30 knots (mid 30s top). Optional 1,300hp MANs cruise at an honest 35 knots and reach a top speed of 40 knots.
INTERIOR
The interior layout makes the salon a true home-away-from-home for any yachting family. The day head at the foot of the stairs is a huge plus.
BRIDGE DECK
The helm’s proximity to the cockpit means that couples can easily manage the 50 Open alone whether fishing or maneuvering into a tight slip.
