There is no model lineup to shop here — every Rybovich was built as a one-off, so comparison happens hull by hull. Michael Rybovich & Sons traces the line to a West Palm Beach yard whose first purpose-built custom sportfisherman launched in 1947, and to the fighting chair, aluminium outrigger and tuna tower developments that became standard practice in offshore fishing. Used Rybovich inventory at HMY Yacht Sales has recently spanned roughly 34 to 75 feet across model years from the late 1950s to the early 2000s, with asking prices from about $300,000 to just under $4 million. The practical sort is by size and layout rather than by year: the 34 to 44-foot express and walkaround hulls, the 54 to 60-foot convertibles and yachtfish, and the later 60 to 65-foot convertibles are three different boats in crew, range and running cost, and each attracts a different buyer at resale.
Because the yard builds cold-molded rather than in production fiberglass, the survey has to be booked with someone who works on wooden and cold-molded hulls regularly — a general fiberglass survey will not answer the questions that matter. Expect moisture readings throughout the laminate and structure, close inspection of the keel, garboard, transom, horn timber and deck-to-hull joint, examination of fastenings and framing, and a careful look at any sheathing or coating applied over the original build. On these boats the single biggest value variable is the quality, scope and date of the last restoration, along with how well it is documented; a hull restored to a known standard and kept dry will present very differently from one carrying deferred work. Repower history, tower and outrigger condition, cockpit and fighting equipment, and the state of the steering, hydraulics and electrical systems round out the inspection. It is also worth discussing insurance and financing requirements for a classic hull with your broker early, since they differ from those applied to modern production boats.
