Overmarine, the Italian yard behind the Mangusta line, was founded in 1985 by Giuseppe Balducci in Viareggio, on Italy's Tuscan coast. Balducci was a marine-electronics engineer who had spent years working with the established shipyards of Viareggio before starting his own yard. The name Mangusta — Italian for mongoose — was chosen to signal speed and agility.
Overmarine built its reputation in the maxi open fast motoryacht segment, a category Mangusta helped define in the 1990s. The Balducci family continues to lead the company, and the yard has delivered more than 300 hulls to owners worldwide.
