We caught up with Bob Shomo of Johnson & Towers and Andrew Boyer of MTU to talk all things all-new MTU 12V2000 M96Z—from what sets this engine apart, to MTU’s warranty coverage, and where you’ll see the very first installation come to life.
The first of these engines has officially arrived at the Viking factory in New Jersey and has been installed for the first time in the Viking 64, which Johnson & Towers will demo this summer.

We're here standing in front of the all-new MTU 12V2000 M96X. We have Andrew Boyer from MTU and Bob Shomo from J&T. Andrew, tell us a bit about the engine. Thanks, Riley. Yeah, this is our latest engine coming off of the M96X. It's an 11% power increase. The way we achieve that is through three millimeters of additional bore, so that gives us 4.5% additional displacement in this engine. We have new pistons, new cylinder heads, new turbochargers as well. So we're looking forward to seeing this engine out on the water soon. And Bob, can you tell me a bit about the warranty MTU has, and where are we gonna see this engine first? Sure, Riley. So we have 220 more horsepower with minimal weight gain and really no difference in physical profile. The warranty on the engine is two years standard, 10 years of additional warranty for a total of 12 years or 6,000 hours. The best warranty in the business. And we're gonna have this engine debut in the Viking 64, which will be the next J&T demo boat for the spring of 2026. We look forward to seeing this bad boy in action.
