Throwback to when we caught up with Jim Motsko before the 52nd Annual White Marlin Open!

We're here at the registration day, the Saturday before the White Marlin Open, the 52nd annual year. We're so excited to be here with Jim Moscow, the founder. Jim, it's like the Christmas Eve of your tournament. How are you feeling? A little anxious, a little anxious. It's always a little bit of stress going into the last two days. We're registered today and tomorrow, and Monday's schedule will be the first fishing day. Okay, Monday's the first fishing day, so we're preparing now. Tell us, what are some of your favorite memories of the White Marlin Open? You've been doing this for 52 years. There's got to be some amazing memories. Well, I think the first one is the one that, the very first one we had, when we realized we took a tournament from zero to 54, excuse me, 57 boats the first year, and that was really like, we did it. And we knew we had to pay the money out. We had to go borrow the money, but we paid it out and just getting to that point was a highlight. One of the craziest things that happened to me was one year during the tournament, one of our anglers had been celebrating with some beer all afternoon, and something happened, and he came up to me, and I didn't know him from Adam. He busts his way through the crowd, literally just pushes me into the water. Oh, wow. And I'm thinking like, what is this? But luckily, I didn't hit my head, and they fished me out of here. Right here? Yeah. Oh my God. And then the other one was the year that we became the largest billfish tournament in the world. We had 257 boats that year, and that was a highlight. Amazing. You had 257 boats that year. Do you have any estimation on how many you'll have this year, or are we still waiting to see? Oh, we're still waiting to see. We had 173 pre-registered before today, and usually the Saturday and Sunday are huge, huge registration days. Everybody likes to wait till the last minute to check the weather and things like that. Yeah, gotcha. Any insight into what the purse is going to be? I know it's still a little early, but as they say, this is the richest tournament in the world. I don't know yet. We'll find out once the people get here. But I'm hoping that we'll beat last year. We were over $8.5 million, and we hope to do better than that this year. Awesome.
