Vista 52 Motor Yacht
Marketed as the Vista 52 Motor Yacht on the East Coast for many years, this popular Taiwan import is better known on the West Coast as the Spindrift 52. (To add to the confusion, she was also marketed for a time as the Southern Star 52, and she’s been sold internationally as the Kha Shing 52 MY.) Regardless of the name, her initial popularity rested on an affordable base price, rugged hull construction, comfortable accommodations, and a lavish all-teak interior. Several three-stateroom floorplans were used during her production run (the floorplans differed depending upon the importer), and while a relatively narrow beam keeps her from being a big yacht on the inside, the spacious aft deck and wide side decks are notable. A lower helm and deck access door were standard in all models, and teak decks were optional. Additional features included a bow pulpit, swim platform, hardtop, and radar arch. Kha Shing offered this boat with a long list of engine choices over the years. Those delivered with 375hp Cat diesels—relatively small engines for a yacht this size—deliver a steady cruising speed of 16–17 knots and a top speed of around 20 knots.
