42 Convertible

2011–16

Viking Yachts 42 Convertible
A popular model, the Viking 42 Convertible and her sistership, the Viking 42 Open (2011–16), were the first Viking models to feature Zeus pod-drive propulsion. Beaujpgully styled like Viking’s larger yachts, the 42’s well-appointed salon features a posh L-shaped lounge, a teak cocktail table, teak valances, and a surround-sound entertainment system with 32" flat screen TV. The dinette is a step above the carpeted sole. Viking offers the 42 with a choice of layouts: The standard two stateroom, two head floorplan has a mid-level galley with bar stool seating, and the optional three-stateroom interior has an island galley forward in the salon. A mezzanine deck overlooks the cockpit, an unusual perk in a small convertible. With 122 sq. ft. of space, the cockpit is ideal for cruising but on the short side for fishing—a common complaint. The mezzanine features hinged seating with stowage below, room for an optional freezer, and direct engine room access. A transom door with lift gate, fresh and raw-water washdowns, tackle locker with drawers, and a transom fish box are among the standard features. Powered with 600hp Cummins/Zeus pod drive diesels, the 42 Convertible cruises at 30 knots (low-to-mid 30s top).
