There are several good reasons why the Roughwater 37 has endured so well over the years. Salty styling and functional interior are perhaps her most visible assets, and the Roughwater’s slender, easily driven hull offers better speed and economy that most modern semi-displacement designs. The 37 was Roughwater’s first all-fiberglass model, and her traditional, single-stateroom interior is ideal for the cruising couple. The main salon, separated from the pilothouse by a two-part hatch, contains a large convertible dinette, which is elevated to allow diners a good outside view. The large galley is flanked by two hanging lockers—just part of the enormous storage space available in this boat. A teak door closes off the stateroom for privacy, and ventilation and lighting in the salon are excellent. In the cockpit, storage boxes are conveniently located on both sides of the pilothouse door. The side decks are very wide, and a two-person bench seat is positioned on the flybridge. Engine room access is via hatches in the pilothouse floor. A single 200hp Perkins diesel will cruise the Roughwater 37 at 8–10 knots, and twin 215hp Detroit diesels cruise at 14–16 knots.
