Pearson
38 Double Cabin
1988–91
Introduced in 1988 as part of Pearson’s effort to get back into the powerboat market, the 38 Double Cabin received high marks from industry observers for her quality construction and exemplary fit and finish. Built on a deep-V hull with balsa-cored hullsides and a relatively wide beam, the two-stateroom, galley-down interior of the Pearson 38 is accented with oak trim, high-end fabrics, and a complete entertainment center in the salon. Both staterooms include walkaround double beds, and both head compartments are fitted with separate stall showers. Note that the galley has a full-size refrigerator, a real plus in a boat this size. The salon in this interior is very spacious with good headroom and large cabin windows; the aft cabin, however, seems a little small for a 38-footer. Topside, the aft deck platform—which came with a wet bar and ice maker—is also modest in size with room for only a couple of deck chairs. Additional features include a well-arranged engine room, bow pulpit, wide side decks, and a swim platform. Twin 320hp gas engines were standard (16 knots cruise/24–25 top), and 320hp 3208 Cat diesels were optional (20 knots cruise/24 knots top).
