Purists will recognize the familiar lines of the Pace 48 SF as those of the old Egg Harbor 48. Indeed, she’s pretty much the same boat on the outside right down to the foredeck storage box and the teak cockpit sole but—unlike the original—with solid glassed-over front windshield panels. Built in Taiwan, the original Egg Harbor molds were reworked for the new production run and the finished products were marketed primarily in East Coast markets. Construction is identical to the earlier Egg 48 specifications with a solid fiberglass hull and balsa coring in the decks and superstructure. The two-stateroom, two-head layout (similar to later-model Egg 48s) is arranged with the galley and dinette forward in the salon that results in a very open layout indeed. This is a narrow hull design with a fine entry and a nearly flat 2˚ of deadrise at the transom—quick to accelerate for a big boat and a relatively fast ride in open water. Additional features include molded tackle center in the cockpit, a transom door, and an abundance of exterior teak trim. Twin 735hp 8V92 diesels cruise at 25 knots and reach 28–29 knots top.
