50 Super Sport

1982–85

Ocean Yachts 50 Super Sport
A scaled-down version of the good-selling Ocean 55 Super Sport (1981–90), the 50 Super Sport never achieved the widespread popularity of her larger sibling in spite of her more affordable price. She was built on a beamy modified-V hull with cored hullsides and a flat 5 degrees of deadrise at the transom. Unlike the Ocean 55 with her see-through front windshield, the windshield panels of the Ocean 50 are solid fiberglass, which allowed for an entertainment center in the salon. Two- and three-stateroom floorplans were offered with the two-stateroom version notable for its huge master stateroom dimensions. Both layouts feature an expansive salon with the galley down, separated from the salon by a serving counter. The cockpit came with molded tackle centers, freezer, baitwell, transom door, and a teak sole. The engine room is entered directly from the cockpit, but access to the engines and generator is poor—a serious drawback in this boat. A hard-riding boat in a chop, the Ocean 50 SS cruise at a brisk 25–26 knots with standard 675hp 8V92 diesels and reach a top speed of about 29 knots. Note that an all-new Ocean 50 Super Sport was introduced in 2004.
