48 Super Sport
1991–93
The second (of three) Ocean 48 Super Sport models is a restyled version of the original 48 Super Sport (1986–90) with a more rakish profile, built-in hardtop, less exterior teak, and a completely revised three-stateroom interior. The hull, tankage, power, and performance remained virtually unchanged from her top-selling predecessor. The varnished teak interior of the Ocean 48 was lush indeed by the standards of her day. The floorplan is very innovative and features an opulent midships master stateroom set partially beneath the salon. A double berth is found in the forward VIP stateroom, and both heads are fitted with stall showers. On the deckhouse level, the dinette is set forward in the salon—an unusual layout in the early 1990s. Anglers will find a lot to like in the cockpit with its recessed controls, baitwell, tackle lockers, built-in fish boxes, and direct engine room access. Additional features include a molded bow pulpit, an entertainment center in the salon, and a well-arranged flybridge with bench seating forward of the helm. A fast ride with just 485hp 6-71 Detroit diesels, the 48 SS will cruise in the mid 20s (about 30 knots top).
