48 Sport Fish
1997–2001
A handsome yacht with aggressive lines and a sleek profile, the Ocean 48 Sport Fish brought something new to the late 1990s market for big express-type sportfishing boats with her innovative two-stateroom interior. Most boats of this type are bare-knuckle fishing machines whose single-stateroom interiors are designed to accommodate the needs of day boaters. Thus, the genuine cruising capabilities of the 48 Open are unique for a serious express fisherman. Built on the same modified-V hull used for the Ocean 48 Convertible, designer David Martin created the space for the mid-cabin stateroom of the 48 Sport Fish by substantially elevating the bridge deck. (Note that there is a single berth as well as a double berth in the aft stateroom.) For fishing, the cockpit is equipped with a transom door, two huge in-deck fish boxes, a rod storage cabinet, tackle center, and a transom baitwell. Additional features include a standup engine room, a centerline helm with elevated seats (for excellent visibility), a full teak interior, and a separate stall shower in the head. Twin 625hp 6V-92 diesels cruise the 48 Sport Fish at 28 knots (30+ knots top), and later models with 660hp Cats cruise at 30 knots (34–35 knots top).
