MJM Yachts
40z
2007–19
The goal with the MJM 40z was to create a fuel-efficient 40-foot powerboat able to cruise at over 30 knots while delivering first-rate cruising accommodations for two. It didn’t hurt that the 40z’s classic Downeast styling ranked with the best in her class, or that a small crowd could be seated in luxury and comfort in her single-level cockpit. Built on a modified-V hull with a moderate 12-foot beam, the high-tech construction of the 40z makes her a very weight-efficient boat. Two versions are offered; the Down East model (above) has roll-up side windows, and the Express configuration incorporates a more stylish look with extended side windows. Below, the well-appointed (and meticulously finished) interior of the 40z has a private owner’s cabin forward and a convertible dinette—with a Pullman curtain for privacy—opposite the galley. The head is to port with entry from the salon or forward cabin. Additional features include teak decking, port/starboard boarding doors, swim platform, and a large cockpit storage lazarette. Volvo 370hp IPS pod drives cruise at 25 knots at 1.2 miles per gallon—impressive fuel economy for a boat this size. Over 100 were sold.
