38 Express

The Mediterranean 38 Express is an uncomplicated, economy-class express suitable for both fishing or family cruising. Considered a good boating value by many, whatever the 38 might lack in finish and detailing was more than compensated for by her sturdy construction and a low factory-direct price. The standard single-stateroom interior is arranged with an island berth in the private bow stateroom, a large U-shaped convertible settee, and a compact galley abaft the head compartment. Unlike most express boats her size, the Mediterranean has no mid-cabin berth beneath the helm. (She does, however, have a big engine room—something few mid-cabin boats can claim.) Topside, an L-shaped lounge is opposite the helm, and the entire helm deck can be raised electrically for access to the motors. Additional features include a wide transom door, bow pulpit, cockpit wet bar, and an aft-facing cockpit seat. A swim platform is a popular option. A good performer with optional 420hp Yanmar—or 430hp Volvo—diesels, the Mediterranean 38 Express will cruise in the mid 20s and reach a top speed of about 30 knots.
