With her “floating“ fiberglass hardtop, the styling of the Maxum 4200 Sport Yacht (called the Maxum 4200 SCR in 2002) was cutting-edge in the early 2000s. Without the hardtop, the 4200 might easily be confused with a European sportboat; with it, however, the visual impact is striking. Built on a beamy modified-V hull with an integrated swim platform, the two-stateroom, two-head interior of the 4200 is much more spacious than most of her European counterparts. High-gloss cherry joinery, teak-and-holly flooring, and Ultraleather upholstery combine to give the salon a rich and fairly elegant ambiance (although the fit and finish is something less than impressive). Privacy doors separate both staterooms from the salon, and the forward head is fitted with a separate stall shower. In the cockpit, the arching side windows and elevated hardtop provide plenty of protection from sun and wind. Molded steps in the transom corners lead up to the side decks, and the aft seating section rises hydraulically for engine access. An affordably priced boat with many standard features, twin 450hp Cummins V-drive diesels cruise the Maxum 4200 in the low-to-mid 20s (27–28 knots top).
