40 Express

A handsome Down East-style cruiser, the 40 Sedan introduced in 1995 was Legacy’s first entry into the powerboat market. She’s built on an easily driven, fully cored hull with a sharp entry, moderate transom deadrise, and a deep skeg that protects the prop and rudder in the single-screw version. Not inexpensive, the finely crafted interior of the Legacy 40 is a blend of mahogany woodwork and trim with top-quality fixtures. Her standard galley-down floorplan (which can be altered to fit the requirements of buyers) includes two comfortable staterooms, each with a double berth. While the salon dimensions are modest compared with some 40-foot sedans, the large windows and lovely teak and holly cabin sole create a very comfortable and traditional environment indeed. Additional features include a roomy cockpit, wide side decks, and folding radar mast. Among several engine options available over the years, a single 420hp Cat diesel will cruise an early-model Legacy 40 at 17–18 knots, and later models with twin 370hp Cummins cruise at 22–23 knots. Note that a single-stateroom Express model was also available.
