Hi-Star Yachts Star 48 Convertible
Taiwan builders have never been successful in building a convertible sportfishing boat that met with the approval of serious anglers. Indeed, most convertible designs from Asian yards have been more oriented to the cruising market with only a passing nod to fishability. Such a boat is the Hi-Star 48, a well-built flybridge cruiser whose roomy interior, quality construction, and efficient hull are her most notable design characteristics. Her expansive two-stateroom floorplan is arranged with the galley and salon on a single level and separated by a stylish, drum-shaped serving counter. A lower helm was standard, and wraparound cabin windows provide plenty of natural lighting. Forward, a centerline double berth is located in the very large master stateroom, and over/under bunks are fitted in the guest cabin. Note that a double-entry stall shower serves both heads—an innovative and space-saving feature. The superb teak interior joinery and well-designed engine room are impressive. Note also the wide side decks. With standard 375hp Cat diesels, the Hi-Star 48 will cruise at 18 knots and reach a top speed of around 22 knots—good performance indeed for relatively small engines.
