Grand Alaskan

53 Pilothouse

2001–05

Grand Alaskan 53 Pilothouse
A handsome yacht with muscular lines, the Grand Alaskan 53 Pilothouse has the businesslike appearance of a serious long-range cruiser. Like her larger siblings in the Alaskan fleet, the 53 was a semi-custom yacht. She was built in Taiwan on a semi-displacement hull with a shallow keel, moderate beam, and foam coring above the waterline. Rather than packing three staterooms and two heads in the lower deck level, the Alaskan has two large staterooms and two equally spacious heads—a more practical arrangement for many cruising couples. The galley and salon are aft on the deckhouse level, four steps down from the pilothouse with its centerline helm, expansive windows, settee and chart table. The interior is beaujpgully finished with grain-matched teak woodwork and cabinetry throughout. Additional features include wide, secure side decks, a spacious flybridge, large lazarette storage compartment, and a well-arranged engine room. Note the wave-breaking Portuguese bridge wrapping around the pilothouse. Standard 300hp Cat diesels cruise the Alaskan 53 at 10 knots (12–13 top), and optional 450hp Cats cruise at 12–14 knots.
