Donzi

255 Medallion; 255 LXC

1995–98

Originally called the 255 Medallion, the 255 LXC is constructed on a modified-V hull with a solid fiberglass bottom and cored hullsides, and a single-piece inner liner adds a good deal of strength to the hull. Like so many family cruisers this size, the Donzi’s high freeboard and raised foredeck allows for standing headroom in the cabin at the expense of an ungainly elevated profile. Her midcabin interior sleeps four with a convertible dinette/V-berth forward and another double-berth aft. The compact galley can handle some basic food prep tasks, and the enclosed head includes a hand shower. Overall, Donzi engineers were able to create a practical and comfortable cruiser in the Z255 that will appeal to budget-minded families of three or four. On deck, a doublewide seat offers good visibility from the stylish helm, and a hatch in the cockpit sole provides good access to the engine compartment. Lacking side decks, a walk-through windshield opens to the bow. Among several engine options, a single MerCruiser 5.7-liter sterndrive will cruise the Donzi Z255 at 20 knots and reach a top speed in the neighborhood of 35 knots.
