Chaparral
260 Signature
1996–2005
The Chaparral Signature 260 (introduced in 1996 as the Signature 25) is a classy family weekender whose quality construction and good overall performance make her a standout among trailerable cruisers her size. She rides on a balsa-cored modified-V hull, and Chaparral claims that her “Extended V-Plane” bottom design translates into quicker planing and a softer ride. The Signature 260 is indeed a good-handling boat and visibility from the raised helm is excellent. Below decks, the midcabin floorplan provides overnight accommodations for four adults in a cabin that boasts a full 6 feet of headroom. Considering the size of the cockpit, the interior of the Signature 25/260 is very generous and includes an enclosed head compartment as well as a small galley and adequate storage. A curved settee is opposite the stylish woodgrain helm, and—lacking side decks—a walk-thru windshield provides access to the foredeck. A wet bar and hideaway aft lounge are standard in the cockpit. A very good-running boat, a single 320hp MerCruiser I/O will cruise the Signature 260 at 22–23 knots (mid to high 30s top).
