52 Cockpit MY
1990–91
The 52 Cockpit MY is essentially a Californian 45 Motor Yacht with a cockpit. Produced for only two years, she was constructed on an efficient, easily driven modified-V hull with cored hullsides, a shallow keel, and a relatively narrow 15-foot, 2-inch beam. Like all Californians, the 52 was a quality product with comfortable accommodations and better-than-average finish. Her two-stateroom floorplan (note that many motor yachts this size have three) was arranged with the galley and dinette down—a configuration that maximizes salon space. There’s a tub/shower in the aft head, and a built-in washer/dryer is located in the passageway that leads to the master stateroom. While the narrow beam of the Californian results in less interior volume than might be expected in a 52-footer, the well-crafted teak woodwork and upscale furnishings made for a very inviting decor. The aft deck has plenty of room for entertaining, and the cockpit—with direct access to the aft stateroom—is large enough for some light-tackle fishing. Topside, the flybridge is arranged with the helm forward and lounge seating aft. Optional 425hp Cats cruise the Californian 52 CMY around 16 knots (20–21 knots top).
