Californian Yachts 38 LRC Sedan
The Californian 38 Long Range Cruiser has the same trawler-like profile and modified-V hull form as Californian’s smaller 34 LRC. Available with either a single- or twin-stateroom interior layout, the 38 LRC might best be described as a comfortable sedan trawler with surprisingly brisk performance. Mahogany interiors were a prominent feature in many Californian models, and the woodwork in the 38 is very well crafted indeed, although not really comparable to the teak interiors found in Taiwan boats of her era. As a cruising boat, the Californian will disappoint no one with her comfortable salon, roomy cockpit, and very wide side decks. A lower helm (with a deck access door) was standard, and large wraparound cabin windows provide enough outside lighting to partially offset the dark woodwork. Twin sliding doors open from the salon into the cockpit, where there’s room for a couple of deck chairs and even some light-tackle fishing. Notably, exterior teak trim was kept to a minimum. Topside, the helm is set well forward on the bridge with guest seating for four or five adults. A popular boat, Cat 300hp diesels cruise at 19–20 knots.
