48 Cockpit Motor Yacht
1986–89
It has been very a few years since the last Californian 48 Cockpit MY rolled off the production line, but quality construction and a well-executed interior continue to keep this flush-deck yacht popular on the used market. A comfortable cruising boat with traditional lines, two interior layouts were available with the variations forward of the salon. One includes an island double berth in the forward stateroom, while the other has over/under single bunks more suitable for kids. In each layout, stall showers are included in each head, and the dinette and salon sofa convert to double berths. The interior woodwork of early 48s was dark walnut; after 1988 Californian changed to teak woodwork. Although the cockpit is too small for any serious fishing ambitions, it is equipped with a transom door as well as an entryway door directly into the aft stateroom—a convenience many cockpit yachts fail to provide. Topside, the flybridge is huge with seating for a small crowd. Additional features include wide side decks, aft-deck hardtop, radar arch, swim platform and bow pulpit. A good sea boat, standard 375hp Cat diesels cruise the Californian 48 at 15–16 knots.
