When it comes to luxury sportfishing yachts, Viking has set the gold standard for decades. Their unmatched reputation stems from a factory process unlike any other in the marine industry — one that blends cutting-edge technology, old-world craftsmanship, and relentless innovation. At HMY Yacht Sales, as one of the world’s largest authorized Viking dealers, we’ve had a front-row seat to this process and have guided countless clients through the exciting journey of building their Viking yacht.

90% Built In-House

One of Viking’s greatest strengths is vertical integration. While many builders rely heavily on subcontractors, Viking builds over 90% of each yacht in-house. This includes everything from:

  • Fiberglass and resin infusion for hulls and decks
  • Aluminum and stainless-steel fabrication for towers, hardware, and systems
  • Custom joinery and cabinetry crafted on-site in dedicated wood shops
  • Electrical harnesses, plumbing, and mechanical systems engineered specifically for each model

This level of in-house control ensures precision and consistency at every stage while allowing Viking to continuously implement improvements — living up to their mantra to “build a better boat every day.”

The New Gretna, NJ Facility – A Marine Powerhouse

Spanning more than 800,000 square feet along the Bass River, Viking’s New Gretna facility is often referred to as the “8th wonder of the world.” It operates like a perfectly orchestrated production line, with yachts moving seamlessly from one specialized department to the next:

  • Lamination and resin infusion bays where advanced composites are formed with state-of-the-art vacuum infusion techniques.
  • Metal fabrication shops producing everything from engine beds to custom fittings.
  • Carpentry and interior shops where multi-generational craftsmen create Viking’s signature interiors.
  • Final assembly where systems integration, sea trialing, and finishing touches come together.

The scale and efficiency of this facility are unmatched in the marine industry, making it possible for Viking to maintain both quality and volume.

Multi-Generational Expertise

What makes Viking truly unique is the people behind the yachts. Many of the craftsmen and women at Viking are second- and third-generation employees, carrying forward a tradition of excellence while embracing the latest technologies. This combination of heritage and innovation is reflected in every finished yacht.

HMY’s Role as Your Authorized Viking Dealer

As one of Viking’s most experienced dealers, HMY has developed deep relationships with the Viking team and intimate knowledge of their build process. For our clients, this means we’re not only helping you select the perfect model — we’re guiding you through the entire build journey, from choosing layouts and options to understanding the factory’s craftsmanship at each step.

We’ve experienced firsthand the well-oiled machine that is the Viking factory, and we take pride in ensuring our clients enjoy the same confidence and excitement when building their Viking as we do.

“Having spent countless hours inside the Viking factory, I can say it’s unlike anything else in the industry. The scale, the precision, and the passion that goes into every yacht are extraordinary. You don’t just see a boat being built — you see a culture of excellence at work. At HMY, we’ve walked our clients through this process step by step, and it’s that behind-the-scenes access and experience that truly sets Viking apart.” - HMY Viking Product Manager Jeff Johnson.
