HMY Yachts Build Update on their Viking 68 Convertible (68-055)

HMY Yachts Build Update on their Viking 68 Convertible (68-055)

By Reiley Hutchinson   January 9, 2024

The Viking 68 Convertible continues to be an incredibly popular model among the sportfish community. As was mentioned in the “Sweet Sixties” blog from this past summer, the HMY New Viking Team successfully delivered in 2023 alone hulls # 41,43,46,47,49, and 50. In addition, Viking chose Hull #52, an open bridge convertible equipped with a Palm Beach Gap Tower as the platform for its winter demo program. This vessel successfully fished in the Dominican Republic after being displayed at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. One would argue that the 68 is wildly popular because of having larger Viking amenities such as a day head and dedicated crew quarters with direct engine room access, and the fact that it is under 70’.

68-055 Hull

Moving forward, the team has recently mentioned HMY’s newest 68 projects, hull #55, which is currently a stock vessel for HMY and available for delivery this spring. This project is an exciting build for numerous reasons. Most notably, 68-055 will be adopting the helm console layout that is found on the Viking 64, the newest convertible in the Viking Portfolio. This console creates a new helm layout with a shorter helm pod and a flushed dash situated at an angle that allows the captain to access all electronics easily. Forward at the helm is a very comfortable lounge allowing guests to relax and take in the view while underway to the fishing grounds. Inside the vessel, HMY has chosen a décor package that includes a tasteful color combination of blues, whites, and taupes, providing a mix of both contemporary and traditional styles. Hull #55 will also be prepared to be the ultimate battlewagon on the tournament trail, with a Gap Tower from Palm Beach Towers, a custom electronics package from Atlantic Marine Electronics, and all the amenities one would find in a Viking cockpit such as an Eskimo Ice Chipper, ample refrigeration, and a “Cool Breeze” mezzanine air conditioning system. Powered with a pair of MTU Series 2000 V12 M96X 2002MHP Engines, there is no worry that this 68 will reach the crew’s destination in a hurry.
