A recent addition to the CBC and an unofficial leg of the series, Share Our Suzy, a Charleston nonprofit, hosts an all-women anglers tournament in honor of Suzy McGrane, a Charleston photographer who had a zest for life and a deep love for the water. Share Our Suzy supports those affected by the financial burdens of cancer that insurance may not cover, raises awareness, and brings women into spaces that foster confidence, community, and comfort. These all-women competitors kick off the tournament with several days of fun, including group cardboard boat-building competitions, themed events, costumes and performances, music, dancing, food, and, most importantly, laughter. The tournament focuses on bringing women together by fostering a strong sense of community and connection while raising awareness of breast cancer. Spanning 12 days, the tournament gives teams plenty of time to choose one day to fish. Most importantly, these ladies are having fun and spreading an important message, all while building a supportive network — a mission HMY is proud to support.
