Mainship Corporation was formed in 1978 by the Luhrs boatbuilding family, whose lineage traces to the Henry Luhrs Sea Skiff Company founded in New Jersey in the 1930s. The company focused from the start on diesel-powered cruising trawlers designed for economical offshore passages. Mainship's first model was a 34-foot cruiser, and the line eventually spanned roughly 31 to 45 feet.

Mainship production moved from New Jersey to St. Augustine, Florida, in 1992. In 2012 the brand was acquired by David Marlow and continues today as Marlow-Mainship, built in Alachua, Florida. Pre-owned Mainship trawlers from multiple production eras — New Jersey, St. Augustine, and post-2012 — appear regularly in brokerage. HMY Yacht Sales carries pre-owned Mainship trawlers from across the brand's production history.

Frequently asked questions

Where are Mainship trawlers made?
Mainship trawlers have been built in multiple U.S. locations across the brand's history. Production started in New Jersey after Mainship Corporation was founded in 1978, then moved to St. Augustine, Florida, in 1992. Following the 2012 acquisition by David Marlow, Mainship trawlers are now built in Alachua, Florida, under the Marlow-Mainship name. Pre-owned examples in the market may have been built at any of these locations, so buyers should confirm the production year and facility for a specific vessel.
