Legacy is a line of Downeast-style cruising motoryachts established in the early 1990s by Freedom Yachts. Early models were shaped by noted designers including Mark Ellis, who drew the Legacy 34 and 40, and Bill Langan, who designed the Legacy 28. The line is recognized for traditional New England hull forms combined with practical cruising layouts.
In 2010 the Legacy line was acquired by Tartan, which moved production to its facility in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. The brand is currently owned by MMG and built at the Northern Marine shipyard in Anacortes, Washington. Pre-owned Legacy motoryachts from multiple production eras — Freedom Yachts, Tartan, and MMG — appear in the brokerage market.
