Kadey-Krogen carries roughly a half-century of trawler heritage in a name that traces to two founders: naval architect James (Jim) Krogen, who drew the original hull forms, and Art Kadey, his business partner. The Krogen 42 established the brand as a long-range trawler icon, and the Krogen family's involvement in design has continued through generations — Kurt M. Krogen drew the 55 Expedition, keeping the lineage direct. In 2006 the company was acquired by Larry Polster, Tom Button and John Gear, who have continued production under the Kadey-Krogen name.

Every Kadey-Krogen trawler is built in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, the center of Asia's purpose-built pleasure-boat industry. The current lineup spans full-displacement, ocean-capable models — the 39, 44, 48, 55 Expedition and 64 Expedition — each designed for long-range passage-making rather than speed.
