Fountaine Pajot was founded in 1976 in Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis, in the Charente-Maritime region of western France, by Jean-François Fountaine and Yves Pajot. The company began as a racing-dinghy builder — producing 505, 470, and 420 class dinghies — before launching its first cruising catamaran in 1983. That pivot into multihulls defined the brand's direction, and Fountaine Pajot has since developed into one of the principal French builders of cruising sailing catamarans, power catamarans, and motor yachts. Production is spread across western France, with the founding location in Aigrefeuille-d'Aunis, a shipyard at La Rochelle, and motor-yacht assembly at Gujan-Mestras.
