Shopping a pre-owned Feadship means comparing individual hulls rather than model lines. Yachting's feature on the Feadship heritage fleet describes the alliance of the Royal Van Lent yard in Kaag and the De Vries yard in Aalsmeer alongside the De Voogt Naval Architects design studio, all working on a fully custom basis — so two Feadships of similar length and vintage can differ completely in layout, machinery, tankage and interior joinery. The practical first cut is by era rather than by model: the 1960s and 1970s displacement yachts, the 1980s and 1990s raised-pilothouse and yachtfish-style hulls, and the post-2000 tri-deck and long-range builds are three different ownership propositions in crew requirement, running cost and refit exposure. Used Feadship inventory at HMY Yacht Sales has recently spanned roughly 84 to 198 feet across model years from the late 1960s to the mid-2010s, with asking prices ranging from about $2 million to roughly $50 million.
Survey scope on a yacht of this class is closer to a commercial-vessel inspection than a pleasure-boat check. Establish the hull and superstructure materials for the specific hull first, then plan accordingly: on a metal-hulled yacht decades into service, plating gauging, coating condition, tankage, bilge and machinery-space corrosion, and the state of the steering and stabilization gear are the findings that drive negotiation. Class and flag status matter as much as condition — a yacht in class with current surveys, and one that has been kept to a charter-capable standard, prices differently from a sister-era hull that has lapsed. Engine hours are usually low relative to age on displacement yachts, so documented service history, generator hours, and the date and scope of the last major refit move value further than the hour meter does. Where a yacht has had a recent full refit at a yard of comparable standing, expect that to be reflected in the asking price and to shorten the post-purchase work list.
