Overview

As the smallest model in the Viking fleet when she was introduced, the 46 Convertible offers the best of both worlds for anglers looking for a hard-charging tournament contender with family cruising accommodations. Bigger was nearly always better prior to the Great Recession, but by 2010 manufacturers had begun to focus on smaller, more affordable models to keep their order books filled. Built on a new Viking hull form with propeller pockets and 12 degrees of transom deadrise, the 46 was among the first convertibles her size to feature a mezzanine deck complete with bait freezer, storage, and engine room access. Like Viking’s larger convertibles, the salon, galley and dinette are on a single level with satin finished cabinetry throughout. Note the triangular island counter with two bar stools fronting the galley. Below, a laundry center is at the foot of the companionway steps, followed by the guest/day head and, further forward, the guest stateroom with over/under berths. The master stateroom to starboard features a walkaround double berth and private head with an enormous forepeak shower. With 121 sq. ft. of working space, the cockpit came standard with an in-deck livewell, transom fish box, and refrigerated step box. MAN 1,100hp diesels power this fishing machine to cruise at 33–34 knots (high 30s top).

 INTERIOR

The island counter in the 46 Convertible is an innovative touch in a boat this size. The satin finished cabinetry is impeccable throughout.

HELM

The helm and companion seats face a well-designed helm pod with clear flip-up lids over the electronics.
